Electronic Network Cash Tellers, Inc. (ENCASH), the first independent ATM deployer in the Philippines, has expanded its reach to serve the indigenous Filipinos of the Mangyan tribe. ENCASH recently deployed an ATM in Mansalay, Mindoro in partnership with the Alabang Rural Bank (ALABANK).
This deployment means that recipients of the government’s 4Ps program, including the Cardholders from theMangyan tribe, will be able to avail of their money via the ENCASH ATM.
The peace-loving Mangyans are comprised of several tribes who live in the mountains of Mindoro. They live by hunting and subsistence farming. Occasionally, they come down from the mountains to barter their goods and to buy their supplies. With the advent of the ENCASH ATM, they are no longer financially excluded.
Eric Severino, ENCASH President, said, “We are extremely proud and privileged that we can now serve the previously unbanked and underserved members of our community.”
This development means that the Mangyans no longer have to traverse mountains and ride a boat all the way to Batangas just to withdraw money from the nearest ATM.
