ENCASH, the Philippines’ first Independent Automated Teller Machine Deployer, recently launched the country’s first wireless ATMs in Puerto Galera, powered by Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.’s Shops.Work UnPlugged (SWUP).  This project was carried out in partnership with Export and Industry Bank and the Rural Bank of Puerto Galera (RBPG).  The two ATMs are now positioned at the RBPG office in the town and at the Atlantis Dive Resort and Hotel on Sabang Beach.   

The deployment of ATMs in Puerto Galera is a much appreciated development by both the local community and the tourists, who over the years have been used to getting cash advances for a fee through “tourist centers” using their credit cards, or going all the way to Batangas Port for access to ATMs.  Now, they can opt to withdraw cash from the nearest ENCASH ATM, and for a minimal convenience fee, they avoid the inconvenience and additional expenses usually incurred in traveling longer distances.

These wireless ENCASH ATMs in Puerto Galera accept cards from all the major ATM networks in the country, and are also capable of accepting the standard magnetic stripe and soon, microchip cards of Europay, Mastercard, and Visa.  The ENCASH ATMs use the new PLDT SWUP wireless data network service, thus overcoming the challenges of frequently-unavailable landline connections in rural areas.
